This month we’re bringing the spotlight to James “Luv-1” Kelewae. Luv-One is a street artist and aerosol muralist from who has been involved in the NJ scene for many years. A graduate of SVA’s Illustration Department, and a member of SAGE Collective and Albus Cavus, His murals can be seen across New Jersey, and also in NY, Philadelphia, DC, and Chicago.
Known for his illustrative style in portraiture and interlacing bold colorful designs, Luv draws inspiration from the Celtic art of the monks of Iona and other Arabesque ornamentation, folk art from around the world, the expressionists of the 20th Century, and many contemporary street and aerosol artists.
If you’re from the Trenton area you’ve probably seen some of Luv-1’s work. Its in the alleys, under bridges, and on the sides of bodegas. Luv’s murals brings color and life to barren cityscapes. Here on East Hanvoer St. he’s painted everything from the raised beds in the Gandhi Garden to the van parked in front of the gallery. Its about time we gave him a show.
